John Deere Issues Recall of Zero Turn Mowers Across North America
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has announced a recall of over 40,000 John Deere lawn mowers in North America. The recall involves the John Deere ZTrak Zero Turn Mowers equipped with Kawasaki Engines. These mowers are being recalled due to a potential fire and burn hazard caused by a failure in the voltage regulator within the engine.
Mowers Affected by the Recall
The recall affects both U.S. and Canadian consumers. Approximately 39,000 units are being recalled in the United States, while around 2,600 mowers are affected in Canada. The specific models included in the recall are Z720E, Z730M, Z740R, and Z760R.
Reports of Fires and Smoke
Kawasaki Motors USA has reported five incidents of fires and 26 cases of mowers emitting smoke. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported at this time. However, the company is taking these incidents seriously and has issued the recall to prevent potential hazards.
What Consumers Should Do
Consumers who own the affected John Deere mowers should immediately stop using them to reduce the risk of fire or injury. The company recommends contacting a John Deere dealer for a free repair. John Deere is also in the process of notifying all known purchasers of the recall directly.
When and Where the Mowers Were Sold
The recalled mowers were sold between October 2018 and September 2024, with prices ranging from $8,000 to $11,500 USD. These mowers were sold at authorized John Deere dealers across North America.
