Bread and Buns Also Impacted by Metal Contamination
The contamination isn’t limited to bagels. The recall is linked to Sifto brand Hy·Grade Salt, which was used to produce these items. This salt has also been connected to contamination in a wide range of other food products, including bread, buns, sausages, turkey thighs, and frozen breaded chicken. These affected products have been sold at major retailers such as Sobeys, FreshCo, Foodland, Metro, and Amazon.
Products Previously Recalled
This isn’t the first recall related to the contaminated salt. In November, several bread brands—including Country Harvest, Deli World, D’Italiano, Giant Value, Great Value, and Wonder—were also affected. These products were widely sold through retailers such as Shoppers Drug Mart, Real Canadian Superstore, No Frills, and Zehrs.
What You Should Do
Consumers are urged to check their pantries for any of the recalled products and avoid consuming them. For a complete list of affected items, consult the CFIA’s official recall listing. If you’ve purchased any of these products, return them to the retailer for a refund or dispose of them safely.
