U.S. Recalls 600,000 Car Seats with Fix Available for Canadians

Nuna Baby Essentials has issued a recall of approximately 609,000 child car seats after discovering that the harness adjuster may loosen, potentially failing to restrain children properly in the event of a crash. The recall impacts specific Rava car seats produced between July 16, 2016, and October 25, 2023.

Details of the Recall

According to documents released by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the issue lies in the car seat’s plastic harness adjuster button. Debris can infiltrate the harness adjuster mechanism, causing it to loosen over time. This defect increases the risk of injury to children in the event of an accident.

What Nuna is Doing to Address the Issue

To address this safety concern, Nuna Baby Essentials will provide affected customers with a fix-it kit. The kit will include:

  • A new car seat pad
  • Cleaning instructions for the harness adjuster
  • A screwdriver to remove the plastic cover

As of now, the company has not announced a specific date to begin notifying owners by letter.

Important Information for Canadian Consumers

In a statement, Nuna clarified that this recall is limited to car seats sold in the U.S. Canadian Rava car seats are not affected, as they continue to meet the Motor Vehicle Restraint Systems and Booster Seats Safety Regulations (SOR/2010-90) without any issues. However, Nuna is making cleaning kits and replacement car seat pads available to Canadian customers as a precautionary measure.
