Last Call to Claim WestJet’s $12.5M Baggage Fee Settlement Compensation – Are You Eligible?

Last Call to Claim WestJet's $12.5M Baggage Fee Settlement Compensation

If you’ve paid a baggage fee on a WestJet flight in recent years, you could be entitled to a portion of a $12.5 million class action settlement. This settlement, approved in October, addresses allegations that WestJet charged fees contrary to its published rates. While the airline denies wrongdoing, eligible passengers can claim travel credits—but the deadline is fast approaching.

Here’s everything you need to know to claim your share.

Who Qualifies for the Settlement?

You may be eligible for travel credits if:

  • You booked a WestJet flight directly with the airline and paid a fee for your first checked bag.
  • The flight was booked under a fare that stated the first checked bag should have been free.

The eligibility periods are as follows:

  • Canadian domestic flights: Tickets issued on or after September 15, 2014, for travel between October 29, 2014, and July 29, 2017.
  • U.S. and international flights: Tickets issued on or after November 3, 2015, for travel between January 6, 2016, and February 27, 2019.

What Can You Receive?

Eligible participants will receive WestJet Travel Bank credits that can be used for future flights.

  • Validity: Credits are valid for 24 months with no blackout dates, giving you ample time to plan your next trip.
  • Estimated Payout: The final amount depends on how many claims are filed. Current estimates suggest a payout of $10 to $20 per person.
