Bell Media announces additional 100 layoffs as job cuts continue

Bell Media has confirmed the layoff of 98 employees as part of its ongoing shift towards becoming a digital media and content leader. Despite these cuts, the company has assured the public that its news programs will remain unaffected, with no cancellations on the horizon. The layoffs, which were first reported by The Star, primarily impact service and corporate departments. Notably, 44 of the affected roles belong to unionized employees, with many offered voluntary separation packages.

The layoffs are predominantly taking place in Toronto and Montreal, though they are not expected to impact CTV News journalists. In a statement, a Bell Media spokesperson confirmed that news programming would continue uninterrupted, reinforcing that this restructuring will not result in the cancellation of any current shows.

This marks another step in Bell Media’s transformation, which follows a series of cost-cutting measures aimed at streamlining operations and transitioning to a more digital-focused platform. Earlier this year, the company had already offered voluntary separation packages to 1,200 union workers. In the past two years, Bell has reduced its workforce by approximately 7,000 jobs nationwide, according to reports from Manitoba’s Team union.

These cuts impacted various divisions of the company, including 1,000 layoffs at The Source, 120 at Expertech, and 50 positions eliminated at Bell Media. The last few years have been marked by multiple rounds of job reductions at Bell, including high-profile layoffs at CTV Vancouver in 2022, alongside further cuts at radio stations and Toronto newsrooms in 2021.
