Alberta Seniors Benefit: What is Covered & Who Qualifies?

The Alberta Seniors Benefit (ASB) is a financial support program designed to assist low-income seniors with living expenses.

Who Qualifies for the Alberta Seniors Benefit?

To be eligible for the ASB, you must:

• Be 65 years of age or older
• Have lived in Alberta for at least three months immediately before applying  
• Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident  
• Receive the Old Age Security (OAS) pension from the Government of Canada
• Meet specific financial eligibility criteria (income-based)

What is Covered Under Alberta Seniors Benefit?

The ASB provides a monthly benefit to eligible seniors to help with living expenses. The amount of the benefit depends on your income and other factors.  

Note: There are additional programs that may be of interest to Alberta seniors, such as:

• Coverage for Seniors: Provides coverage for ambulance services, prescription drugs, and other health-related expenses.
• Seniors Property Tax Deferral Program: Allows eligible seniors to defer property taxes.
• Seniors Home Adaptation and Repair Program (SHARP): Helps seniors finance home repairs.
