Thousands of Americans may be entitled to receive up to $12,500 in compensation—and the best part? Filing a claim is surprisingly simple.
This comes in the wake of a $9.95 million class action settlement following a massive 2023 cyberattack targeting the National Student Clearinghouse (NSC)—a nonprofit organization that processes and manages student education records for schools and universities nationwide.

What Happened?
In late May 2023, hackers breached the MOVEit file transfer platform, a software tool used by NSC to manage and exchange sensitive data. During the window from May 28 to May 31, cybercriminals reportedly accessed Social Security numbers and other personal data of millions of Americans.
This breach prompted legal action, and now a multimillion-dollar settlement is offering significant payouts to those affected.
What Can You Get?
Depending on your circumstances, the compensation available breaks down into three main categories:
- Out-of-pocket losses (up to $2,500): Includes smaller financial hits such as unauthorized bank charges, credit monitoring costs, postage, notary services, and time spent resolving the breach.
- Extraordinary losses (up to $10,000): If you were a victim of identity theft, had to hire a pro to fix credit damage, or suffered major financial repercussions, this tier is for you.
- Alternative cash payment ($100): If you haven’t experienced any financial loss but your data was compromised, you can still claim this baseline payout—no need to prove damages.
Note: The actual amount received may vary depending on how many people file claims.
Bonus Perk: 2 Years of Free Identity Protection
All eligible claimants will also receive two years of premium credit monitoring and identity theft protection at no cost. That includes:
- Three-bureau credit monitoring
- Real-time fraud alerts
- Identity restoration services
- Up to $1 million in identity theft insurance

Who Is Eligible?
To qualify for compensation, your Social Security number must have been stored in NSC’s system during the time of the breach (May 28–31, 2023). If you received a notice from NSC, you’re likely eligible.
You’ll only need ONE supporting document to file your claim. Examples include:
- A bank or credit card statement
- Invoice or receipt for related expenses
- Phone or email record showing time spent dealing with the breach
Deadline Alert – Don’t Wait!
Claimants only have a limited time to submit their forms. If you think your information may have been compromised, it’s worth checking your eligibility and filing while you still can.
There’s real money on the table—and claiming it could take less than 10 minutes.
