New Mobility Allowance Rates Explained 2025: Maximize Your Benefits

Mobility Allowance provides crucial financial support for individuals who face challenges using public transport due to disability, illness, or injury. Understanding how much you can receive and the criteria for different payment rates will help you make the most of this assistance.


How Much Can You Get?

Mobility Allowance offers two rates of payment:

  1. Standard Rate
  2. Higher Rate

Your eligibility for either rate depends on your circumstances and activities.


1. Standard Rate

You can receive $115.90 per fortnight at the standard rate by meeting one of the following criteria:

Option 1: Activities for 32 Hours Every 4 Weeks

Engage in one or more of these activities for at least 32 hours every 4 weeks on a continuing basis:

  • Paid work.
  • Voluntary work.
  • Self-employment.
  • Vocational training.
  • Independent living or life skills training.

Option 2: Job-Seeking or Training

Receive $115.90 per fortnight if you are:

  • Seeking work through an employment services provider, such as:
    • Disability Employment Services (DES).
    • Workforce Australia.
    • Community Development Program (CDP).
  • Participating in Disability Management Services through DES.
  • Receiving JobSeeker Payment or Youth Allowance and meeting mutual obligation requirements.
  • Receiving Austudy and meeting activity test requirements.

2. Higher Rate

You can receive $162.00 per fortnight at the higher rate if you meet both of these conditions:

Condition 1: Eligible Payment

You are receiving one of the following payments:

  • Disability Support Pension.
  • Parenting Payment.
  • JobSeeker Payment.
  • Youth Allowance (as a job seeker).

Condition 2: Activities for 15 Hours Per Week or More

You are:

  • Working at least 15 hours per week at or above the relevant minimum wage.
  • Seeking work for 15 hours or more per week through an employment services provider, including DES, Workforce Australia, or CDP.
  • Working at least 15 hours per week in the open labour market under productivity-based wages (Supported Wage System).

Note: The Supported Wage System does not include work through supported employment, such as Australian Disability Enterprises.


Additional Support: Extended Payments

If your work, self-employment, study, or training stops, or your agreement to look for work with your provider ends, you may still receive Mobility Allowance for an additional 12 weeks.
