Bluetooth Speakers Sold on Amazon Recalled Due to Safety Concerns

Anker has issued a recall for approximately 69,000 of its Bluetooth speakers sold on Amazon due to a significant safety hazard involving the batteries. The issue centers on the lithium-ion batteries within the devices, which have been found to overheat, posing a serious fire risk. This recall, active in both the United States and Canada, impacts the Anker Soundcore (A3102) and PowerConf Bluetooth (A3302) speakers.

The recall notice, which was officially published by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission on December 5, applies to the affected models, including about 69,000 units sold in the U.S. and 9,764 units in Canada. According to the notice, the lithium-ion batteries in the Anker Soundcore (A3102) black models and the A3302 PowerConf S3 Bluetooth speakers may overheat, leading to a potential fire hazard.

So far, Anker has received 33 reports of overheating incidents. Some of these reports detail instances of the batteries smoking or catching fire, including one minor injury resulting from a burn caused by an overheated unit. This safety risk has raised alarms among consumers who purchased the speakers from Amazon during 2023.

The recall specifically targets lithium-ion battery packs found in Anker Soundcore Bluetooth speakers, with model numbers A3102016, A3302011, and A3302031. These products were exclusively sold on Amazon throughout 2023.

If you own one of these speakers, it’s critical to stop using it immediately. The recall advises consumers to power off the device and disconnect it from any external power source or charger. Anker is urging affected customers to contact the company to verify their product’s code and submit the necessary recall information. Once verified, Anker will provide instructions for returning the device and receiving a replacement speaker free of charge.

Furthermore, Anker has provided guidance on how to dispose of the recalled speakers safely. Given the risk associated with lithium-ion batteries, consumers are advised not to dispose of the devices in regular trash. Instead, they should follow local and state regulations for the safe disposal of hazardous waste.

This recall is part of a broader trend involving Anker products, as the company has also faced a recall of more than 42,000 Power Banks due to similar overheating battery issues that could lead to injury.

If you have an Anker speaker or power bank affected by these recalls, make sure to take the necessary steps to protect yourself and others. Stay informed about potential safety hazards, and check whether your devices are part of these safety alerts.
