Canadian families will begin receiving their Canada Child Benefit (CCB) payments for November this week, even as Canada Post workers continue their nationwide strike. The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) and Canada Post have assured parents that socio-economic cheques, including CCB payments, will still be delivered on schedule.

Payment Details Amid Postal Strike
While the Canada Post strike affects regular mail delivery, the postal service has a “special agreement” with the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) to ensure critical socio-economic cheques reach recipients without delay.
The CRA confirms that November’s CCB payments, alongside provincial and territorial child benefit payments such as Alberta’s Child and Family Benefit, will be distributed on Wednesday, November 20, 2024. Other essential government benefit cheques, like the Canada Pension Plan (CPP), Old Age Security (OAS), and Alberta Seniors’ Pension, will also be delivered.

How Much Will Families Receive?
The CCB is designed to provide financial support to families based on their adjusted family net income, the number of children, and their ages. Payments were recalculated in July 2024 to account for inflation and net income changes.
For November, eligible families can expect:
- $648.91 per child under six years old (an increase of 4.7% from 2023).
- $547.50 per child aged six to 17 years old (also a 4.7% increase from last year).
Families with an adjusted net income of less than $36,502 will receive the maximum benefit. Payments begin to decrease incrementally for incomes exceeding this threshold.
For families whose annual benefits total less than $240, payments were already issued as a lump sum in July, and these families will not receive payments this month.

Eligibility for Canada Child Benefit
To qualify for the CCB, individuals must meet the following criteria:
- Be a resident of Canada.
- Be the primary caregiver for a child under 18 years of age.
- File their previous year’s tax return to enable income assessment.
The benefit can also be paid for foster children if the Children’s Special Allowances (CSA) are not payable for that month. In cases of shared custody, parents each receive 50% of the benefit.
How Are Payments Delivered?
Parents can expect their payments via direct deposit into their bank accounts or as mailed cheques. Those relying on mail will still receive their cheques on time despite the ongoing postal disruption.
