Canada Revenue Agency Introduces New Benefits for Canadians and Residents Starting January 2025

Canadians, including newcomers and temporary residents, can expect a fresh round of payments from the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) beginning in January 2025. These payments are designed to assist individuals and families in managing rising living costs.

The government has introduced five essential benefit programs, and understanding eligibility and application processes is crucial for accessing these supports.


Canada Child Benefit (CCB)

The Canada Child Benefit (CCB) provides monthly, tax-free payments to families with children under 18 years old. This benefit helps cover the costs of raising children and is available to Canadian residents, including temporary residents who meet specific criteria.

Eligibility:

  • Temporary residents must have lived in Canada for at least 18 consecutive months with a valid permit during the 19th month.
  • Newcomers must apply after settling in Canada.

Payment Details:

  • Families can receive up to $7,786.92 annually for children under six and $6,570 annually for children aged 6-17.
  • Payment amounts decrease as family income exceeds $36,502.

How to Apply:

  • Newcomers can apply online or by mail using Form RC66.

GST/HST Credit

The GST/HST credit supports low- and moderate-income households by offsetting the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and Harmonized Sales Tax (HST). Canadian residents, including temporary residents, are automatically eligible when they file their taxes.

  • Individuals: Up to $519 annually
  • Couples: Up to $680 annually
  • Additional $179 for each child under 19

Advanced Canada Workers Benefit (ACWB)

  • Individuals: Up to $1,518 annually
  • Families: Up to $2,616 annually, paid quarterly

Canada Carbon Rebate (CCR)

Ontario Trillium Benefit (OTB)
