In a groundbreaking move that fuses the world of fast food with hockey greatness, McDonald’s has officially rebranded two of its locations in Canada to “McDavid’s,” paying tribute to Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid’s iconic overtime goal during the 4 Nations Face-off last month, which propelled Team Canada to victory.
The rebrand is the culmination of a promise McDonald’s Canada made to McDavid during the 2023 Stanley Cup playoffs. Last summer, McDonald’s tweeted a bold challenge to McDavid, stating, “Okay @cmcdavid97, how about this… if you bring the cup back to Canada, we’ll turn an Edmonton McD’s into a McDavid’s. Deal?” Although the Oilers did not win the Stanley Cup that year, McDavid’s game-changing goal for Team Canada in overtime sealed the deal, and McDonald’s kept their word, transforming the fast-food locations into McDavid’s in recognition of his unforgettable performance.
McDonald’s Canada followed up with an announcement revealing that the rebranded McDavid’s locations would be opening very soon. The transformation took place on Friday when the locations officially opened their doors in Newmarket, McDavid’s hometown, and Edmonton, where the Oilers are based.
Fans visiting the Newmarket location were treated to a special promotion, where small orders of fries were sold for just $0.97, a nod to McDavid’s jersey number, from Friday to Sunday. The promotion was a big hit, giving McDavid’s supporters and fast food lovers alike a chance to celebrate the hockey star in a delicious way.
