Ontario Trillium Benefit Maximum income Need to Qualify for (OTB) Tax Credits

The Ontario Trillium Benefit combines three credits to help pay for energy costs, sales tax, and property tax: Northern Ontario Energy Credit, Ontario Energy and Property Tax Credit, and Ontario Sales Tax Credit. You need to be eligible for at least one of the three credits to receive the benefit.

How to Get the Ontario Trillium Benefit

To receive the benefit, you must file your personal Income Tax and Benefit Return and complete the ON-BEN Application Form. The Canada Revenue Agency will determine your eligibility and notify you if you are entitled to receive the credit.

Calculating the Benefit

Use the CRA child and family benefits calculator to calculate how much you could get overall from the Ontario Trillium Benefit. The amount depends on your age, income, residence, family size, and amount paid in rent or property tax.

How the Ontario Trillium Benefit is Paid

If you receive your income tax refund by direct deposit, you will receive your Ontario Trillium Benefit payment(s) by direct deposit. Otherwise, you will receive your payments by mail on the 10th of each month, starting in July.

Ontario Trillium Benefit Payments

The amount you receive depends on your eligibility and the credit amount. You can choose between monthly payments or a single payment in June 2025 if you qualify for more than $360.
