Who Will Receive the Last Social Security Check in August?
Only a specific group of Americans will receive Social Security payments in August. If you’re a retiree, your payment will soon appear in your checking account. If not, you’ll have to wait until September for the next disbursement, as this will be the final check for August.
To qualify for this last payment of the month, you must:
- Have been receiving Social Security benefits since after May 1997.
- Have a birthday between the 21st and 31st of any month.
Retirees who meet these criteria belong to group 4, which always receives their Social Security check on the fourth Wednesday of the month. For August, this payment will be sent on the 28th. The same schedule applies in September, so mark your calendar accordingly.
Are There More Social Security Payments Before September?
The payment scheduled for August 28th is not the final one for the month. Another check will be issued, but it’s not a retirement payment. This benefit is available only to certain Americans who meet specific criteria.
To qualify for this additional payment, you must be:
- 65 years old or older, or
- Living with a disability.
Additionally, you must have low monthly income and limited resources to be eligible. If you meet these conditions, you can expect the payment on August 30th, 2024.

Supplemental Security Income: What to Expect
This additional benefit is called Supplemental Security Income (SSI). The maximum payment for this check is $943. However, remember that this payment is technically for September. It arrives early because September 1st falls on a weekend, so the payment is advanced to August 30th.
