Why Were Stanley Mugs Recalled?
On Thursday, Health Canada announced the recall of specific Stanley travel mugs. The problem lies in the lids: the threads on these lids can shrink when exposed to heat and torque, causing the lids to detach unexpectedly. This defect poses a burn risk to users.
Reported Incidents
As of December 12:
- Canada: Three reported incidents, including one burn injury.
- United States: Sixteen reported incidents, with two burn injuries.
Which Mugs Are Affected?
The recall applies to the “Switchback” and “Trigger Action” travel mugs, which feature plastic black lids. These mugs come in various colors and sizes (12 oz, 16 oz, and 20 oz).
How to Check Your Mug
To confirm if your mug is part of the recall:
- Look at the base of the mug.
- Compare the product identification number with the affected list provided by Stanley.
What Should Consumers Do?
Health Canada advises consumers to immediately stop using the recalled mugs. Contact Stanley for a free replacement lid, which includes free shipping.
