Ticketmaster’s $6M Class Action Settlement Approved: Find Out If You’re Eligible for a Payout

Ticketmaster's $6M Class Action Settlement Approved

If you purchased a ticket from Ticketmaster between 2015 and 2018, you could be entitled to compensation as part of a newly approved multi-million-dollar class action lawsuit in Canada. A Saskatchewan court has given the green light to a $6 million settlement following allegations that Ticketmaster engaged in “drip pricing,” a practice where additional fees are only disclosed late in the checkout process.

Although Ticketmaster denies any wrongdoing, the company has agreed to the settlement, which the court has deemed fair, reasonable, and in the best interests of affected customers.

Who Can Claim Compensation?

The class action includes individuals who bought tickets for events in Canada (excluding Quebec) through Ticketmaster’s website or mobile app between September 1, 2015, and June 30, 2018. However, only those who purchased tickets between January 1, 2018, and June 30, 2018, are eligible to receive compensation.

If you fall into this category, you are considered a “credit-eligible class member” and will be entitled to claim your Ticketmaster credits once the claims process begins.

How Much Can You Get?

Eligible class members can receive a Ticketmaster electronic gift card worth up to $45. These gift cards will be:

  • Transferable
  • Non-refundable
  • Free of expiry dates

The final amount each person receives will depend on how many valid claims are submitted.

Breakdown of the Settlement Amount

The total settlement is valued at $6,027,000, but this amount will be reduced by legal fees, administrative costs, and other approved deductions. Justice Graeme Mitchell has authorized:

  • $25,000 honorarium for the representative plaintiff
  • $1,725,000 in legal fees for the lawyers representing the class members

In his decision, Justice Mitchell stated, “While this case does not involve a mega-settlement, it has proved to be a legitimate consumer protection lawsuit which could only have been viably prosecuted as a class action. Class counsel deserve an economic incentive for pursuing this claim to its successful resolution.”

How to Claim Your Ticketmaster Credits

At this time, class members do not need to take any immediate action. If you qualify for compensation, Ticketmaster will notify you via email with instructions on how to claim your voucher once the settlement process is finalized.

What Happens to Unclaimed Settlement Funds?

If any settlement money remains after the distribution process, the leftover funds will be donated to organizations chosen by Ticketmaster and the plaintiff, subject to court approval.
