SOSCIP is an R&D advanced computing consortium based in Ontario. SOSCIP’s mission is to bring together industrial partners and academic researchers and provide them with sophisticated advanced computing technologies and expertise to solve social, technical and business challenges across sectors and drive economic growth.
SOSCIP was a research consortium based in Ontario that brought together industrial partners and academic researchers to provide advanced computing technologies and expertise. Developed as a collaboration between 15 Ontario post-secondary institutions, IBM Canada Ltd., and numerous small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), SOSCIP aimed to drive economic growth by solving social, technical, and business challenges across sectors.
SOSCIP History
Launched in 2012, SOSCIP catalyzed the creation of a collaborative ecosystem that accelerated the economic impact, job creation, skills retention, and growth of over 120 Canadian firms. The consortium provided researchers with access to cutting-edge computing resources and technical expertise, aiming to boost Canada’s innovation economy.
SOSCIP’s goals included supporting collaborations between researchers and SMEs, fostering industry adoption and commercialization of new technologies, providing training opportunities, driving job creation, and deploying an equity, diversity, and inclusion plan.
SOSCIP Closing
Although SOSCIP ceased operations in 2023 after its federal government funding term concluded, it successfully drove innovation across every sector of Ontario’s economy during its operational years. By tapping into world-leading research expertise, SOSCIP enabled companies to access advanced computational AI and data science technologies, develop talent, and sustain long-term growth.
Since its inception, SOSCIP had catalyzed the creation of a collaborative ecosystem that accelerated the impact and growth of hundreds of Canadian firms, making it a leader in harnessing advanced computing to drive innovation and a successful model for academic-industry partnerships focused on commercialization.
