The lawsuit, Halim v. Charlotte Tilbury Beauty Inc., was filed in the Circuit Court of Cook County, Illinois (Case No. 2022-CH-11832). It claims that Charlotte Tilbury Beauty violated Illinois’ Biometric Information Privacy Act by collecting biometric data, specifically facial geometry scans, from users of its virtual try-on tools without providing proper disclosure or obtaining consent.

BIPA requires companies to obtain informed consent before collecting biometric data, such as facial recognition scans, and to disclose how the data will be used.
