Frito-Lay has issued a recall for certain Lay’s Classic Potato Chips in the U.S. due to the potential presence of an undeclared milk allergen. The recall affects select 13-ounce bags sold in stores and online, prompting concerns for consumers with milk allergies or sensitivities.
Why Were Lay’s Chips Recalled?
The recall was initiated after Frito-Lay discovered, via a consumer complaint, that certain bags of Lay’s Classic Potato Chips may contain undeclared milk.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) warned that individuals with a milk allergy or severe sensitivity face the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if they consume the product.
Details of the Recalled Product
The affected chips are 13-ounce (368.5-gram) bags with:
- “Guaranteed Fresh” Date: February 11, 2025
- Manufacturing Codes: 6462307xx or 6463307xx
These products were distributed to retailers and e-commerce platforms in Oregon and Washington and may have been available for purchase as early as November 3, 2024.
What Should Consumers Do?
Consumers with a milk allergy or sensitivity should:
- Avoid Consumption: Do not eat the affected product.
- Dispose Immediately: Discard the chips to prevent any risk.
Frito-Lay emphasized that no other Lay’s products are impacted by this recall, and no reports of allergic reactions have been recorded to date.
