Prinx Chengshan Tire North America (PCTNA) has issued a recall for more than 540,000 snow tires due to failure to meet North American snow traction standards. The affected tires, marketed under the Fortune Tormenta and Prinx HiCountry brands, were designed for winter conditions but have been found lacking in proper snow grip.

Details of the Recalled Tires
The recall affects over 100 tire sizes with the three-peak mountain snowflake (3PMSF) symbol stamped on their sidewalls. These tires were manufactured between August 24, 2020, and December 7, 2024, and were sold as replacement winter tires.
While the tires passed European snow traction standards, they failed tests under the North American standards, which are stricter. This discrepancy has prompted PCTNA to take action to protect drivers in snowy and icy conditions.

Why the Recall Was Issued
The North American and European standards for snow tires differ significantly. After testing several sample sizes under the North American guidelines, the tires failed to meet the required traction performance.
Inadequate snow traction increases the risk of skidding and accidents, especially in harsh winter weather, leading to the Class I safety recall of these tires.
